Don't forget yourself...before you wreck yourself.

Don't forget yourself...before you wreck yourself.

I didn't plan on taking the day off. I was going to just push through it, it was Friday and I'd made it this far. I just needed to get out on a quick walk, reset, and get back to it. Fortunately, I stumbled into some awesome neighbors who were also enjoying the sunshine. One of us made mention of "today would be a good day to take off". We all laughed it off, and we carried on with our walks in opposite directions.

As I mosied, I started to think about the possibility of taking the day off. It sounded so good, and frankly, so necessary. After wavering back and forth I finally just said screw it, I need it, I am doing it. I rearranged my day a bit and was on my way. I went for a nice long drive, spent some time outside, picked up a few items I had been meaning to for several months, and even found a cool little guitar shop and chatted with the owner. Finally, I needed to make my way back but first had to grab a bite before heading home.

I picked up a sandwich from the Saxapahaw general store and checked out the next door music venue I had been hoping to catch a show at called the Haw River Ballroom. I recognized one of the bands thats scheduled to play there next month and remembered someone had once suggested I check out. The band is Son Volt. So I pulled up Spotify and played the first song that came up by them. Below is the song that came on. It hit me like a ton of bricks.

I made one last stop at a nature trail and journaled for a bit (and took that picture up top!) and just sat in silence for a few moments. I didn't find all of the answers that day, but I did learn an important lesson about self care and not putting it off until you reach a breaking point. Listen to your soul and let the universe know you need some guidance.

One last cool serendipitous piece to all of this as well. So fast forward a few weeks. I am scrolling instagram and noticed a new post from Jason Isbell who just released a new album. I am a huge fan of Isbell. In one of the new songs, he makes a reference to both Son Volt and their song "Windfall". He put out a cover of it that I shared below. Thanks Universe, looks like you've got my attention and my back.
